Motivation

As the pandemic spread, Covid testing has become a public concern. People are caring updating case numbers and their health. When we searched for Covid data online, we realized that it’s very time-consuming to collect all the information we need because data was separated on different websites so we had to open many webpages to skim through. Therefore, our group wants to create a visualization which combined Covid data which people need together in order to reduce the workload of researching Covid data online.

Our group will look into Ottawa Covid case number, test centres and vaccine clinics from Ottawa Public Health and Open Ottawa and design an interactive map with these datas. Our website would come up with questions such as “Where are you now?”, “When do you want to get a test?”, “Where do you want to get a test?” and “Which way do you want to get to your destination?” as motivating questions helping and guiding users to use our website. Users can explore their neighbourhoods’ case numbers, comparing the numbers and the locations of Covid test centres to find out their preferred test centre to go. Users can also filter locations based on their needs for special Covid services and locate their location on the map to have a closer look of the neighbourhoods around them.

In general, our group wants to create a map to help Ottawa residents look for Covid test centres, vaccine clinics, and neighbourhood case numbers. We want to add design-on-demand services such as filters, route guide, and searching for address on the map as well to reduce the time users spend on looking for Covid test.
